Walker with Height Adjustable Seat

Walker with Height Adjustable Seat

A man with a muscle wasting disease was finding it difficult to get out of standard seats, so he was using the higher seat of his 4-wheeled walker instead. However, the height of the seat meant the walker was unable to fit under many tables. TADVIC modified the walker, adding seat which is height adjustable. The height of the seat is controlled via a linear actuator and two telescopic posts and can easily be raised or lowered by a pressing a switch on a control box which hangs on the arm of the walker. The seat can be folded in two to keep it out of the way when the man is walking. T8-502

Raise seat on Walker

Raise seat on Walker

The seat on a man’s four wheeled walker was too low for him. TADVIC raised the seat by attaching it to a 75mm square extension box and reattaching the hinges so the new seat was still able to be lifted up and down. T9-355

Reposition Brake Handles on Walker

Reposition Brake Handles on Walker

A woman with severe rheumatoid arthritis had difficulty squeezing the brakes on her walker, as they were positioned under the walker handles. TADVIC rotated the brake handles so they sit above the walker handles and fitted extensions to make them easier for the woman to reach. Pushing the handle down to operate the brakes requires less strength and dexterity than squeezing the brake handle upwards. (T9-090)

Walker with Wheelbarrow Crate

Walker with Wheelbarrow Crate

A crate with large swivel wheels added to the base was attached to the front of a walker to enable a woman with spinal problems to transport equipment and plants around her garden. The front panel of the crate can be easily removed to make loading the “wheelbarrow” easier. T8-555

Modify Brakes on Walker

Modify Brakes on Walker

A woman with cerebral palsy steers her walking frame with her left side but was unable to operate the left handbrake located under the handgrip while manoeuvring the walker with her forearm. TADVIC repositioned the handbrake in the vertical position on a metal crossbar running between the left and right handlebar of the walker and added an armrest so that the woman can use the brake easily as she rests her arm.
