The FREEDOM WHEELS Modified Bike Service gives a new kind of independence to children with disabilities by allowing them to ride a bike for the first time.
For most children, their first bike ride is a rite of passage. But for children with a disability, this can seem unachievable.
With the help of a highly skilled and innovative team of therapists, engineers and volunteers at TADVIC, children with disabilities can now enjoy mobility and a form of recreation previously unavailable to them.
TADVIC are creating highly customised bikes at special bike days where clients are examined and assessed. The bikes are then modified to suit the particular needs of each child.
This program was launched at TADVIC in 2008, having started in TADNSW the year before . It has been established throughout Australia through the support of one of Australia largest marketing organisations Amway and their Independent Business Owners.
Freedom Wheels is about giving children the ability to enjoy independence, mobility and a new found sense of pride.
